About Fair Trade Hong Kong
Fair Trade Hong Kong (FTHK), founded in 2008, is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization with a commitment to promote the concept of Fair Trade. Being a global organization co-owned by more than 1.9 million farmers, Fair Trade is one of the most recognized and trusted sustainability label in the world, convening the small-scale farmers and workers who are usually the most devalued in multinational production chains, we aim to devise solutions that will help them to a better life without poverty.
As one of the Fair Trade Marketing Organizations of Fairtrade International, Fair Trade Hong Kong is dedicated to promoting Fair Trade through educational efforts across primary, secondary and tertiary levels, also public awareness events and corporate ESG development programs. We strive to nurture global citizenship in young pupils by carrying out public education and expanding Fair Trade product varieties in the market.

Our Logo
Fair Trade movement stresses the importance of contributions from our stakeholders. The four lines in our logo represent the four key members in the supply chain, i.e. producers, brand owners, distribution channels and retailers. The development of FTHK also requires joint efforts from different sectors. The four dots stand for four main stakeholders that we seek their support for the movement, i.e. consumers, schools, business sector and government.
Fair Trade Hong Kong Foundation
In 2002, Oxfam Hong Kong introduced the concept of fair trade to Hong Kong through the “Trade Fair” campaign. In 2008, it helped establish the Hong Kong Fair Trade Alliance and jointly organized the second “Fair Trade Carnival” at the Star Ferry Pier in Central, promoting fair trade to the community.

The Fairtrade Movement
The Fairtrade movement finds its roots in the 1960s, where the public realized the insufficiency of providing aids, and started to turn for "Trade not Aid", which bears a striking resemblance with ethical consumption. Fairtrade products were only found in dedicated stores in a few locations in Europe.
Fast forward a few decades, the Movement found its breakthrough in 1988 when the Max Havelaar Mark symbolized compliance with Fairtrade practices in mainstream produces. Such have been formulated in a standardized recognition stream since the establishment of the Fairtrade Mark in 2002.
FTHK as a Fairtrade Marketing Organization (FMO)
In 2012, FTHK officially joined Fairtrade International to become one of the many Fairtrade Marketing Organization (FMO) and has been authorized to promote and monitor the certification of Fairtrade products in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China since.
